Last few years has seen the rise of creativity around creating jack-o-lanterns before Halloween. And this year, it’s all about the galaxy jack-o-lantern! These out of the world creations are currently the trend on the Internet and we are here to help you create your very own version of it.
So, let’s see. We go to the store or even a pumpkin patch to purchase the gourd of our liking. Then comes the difficult part. There are just too many ideas in our head and only a few pumpkins! And yes, you can’t really carve all them ideas… unless you’re a pro. So here is the DIY version of these beautiful and astounding galaxy jack-o-lanterns which amateurs can try their hands at:
These pretty creations require more than your usual spoon and carving knife. Once you have decided on your pumpkins, you need to get a template of any constellation. You can design as many of the constellations you like on your pumpkins but make sure you have the right template for them. Next comes the drilling part. You can use LED string lights or the usual tea candles. Depending upon your lighting, make the size of the holes on the pumpkin.

Get started with your Halloween galaxy jack-o-lantern:
First, hollow out the pumpkin by removing pulp and the seeds. Turning the pumpkin upside down, carve out one opening to fit your hand through at the base.
Then, use any tool to scrape the walls of the pumpkin. The inside wall should be 1/4-inch thick. Now turn it up.
The third step is to punch the holes for the stars of your constellation. Drill the dots and then connect them with a gouge.
Lastly, fix the small bulbs of the LED string in each of the holes and secure them properly. You can even use a battery-powered candle to finish things faster.
The best part about creating your own galaxy jack-o-lantern is it can be as intricately designed or as minimalistic as you like! These blue pumpkins have minimal details on them so that the “stars” can stand out. Creating more intricate designs will require a steady hand as well as loads of patience!

You, or your children, can play around with the colors too. Pearl finish or a simple spooky black, or even a true blue space look: the contrast of the dark background will always highlight your “stars”.
You can spray white paint with a toothbrush for a galaxy effect. But make sure the paint is completely dry before you touch the pumpkin for drilling.
And those who wish to avoid the mess of having to depulp or carve, you can opt for paint directly. Fabric paint lends a 3-D effect so that you can paint your stars on the pumpkin. Have fun with your very own galaxy jack-o-lantern!
