“If you’re not taking risks, you’re not enjoying life.” – Dan Western
Depending on how long you’ve been reading Educate Inspire Change, you’ll either see risks as a good or bad thing. Most people first assume risks are dangerous, and should be avoided.
I’m here to tell you that risks are amazing; however, that doesn’t include gambling all your money away or trying to rob a bank.
9 Risks Everybody Should Take
The best way to enjoy your life is to take risks, because you unlock possibilities that you would have never thought possible. Sure, there may be some downsides, but you can put those down as interesting stories to share with your grandchildren in the future years to come.
Here are 9 risks everybody should take in their lifetime:
1. Pursuing Your Dreams
To be honest this was always going to be number #1. Have a dream? Pursue it! Please, pursue it now!
It’s not ridiculous to want more. It’s not ridiculous to have a dream. And it’s not ridiculous to pursue that dream. Every minute spent not pursuing your dreams is wasted. Don’t spend your life without ever realizing true fulfilment. Go after everything you desire.
2. Quitting Your Stable Full Time Job
Not a job you love, or that you’re passionate about. If you’re currently in a career that you don’t fully enjoy, and you’re only doing it to pay the bills, get out now!
It may very well be stable, but if you’re not passionate about it, you’re wasting your time. Think about it. You’re spending the majority of your time doing something you dislike, just to keep on living in order to keep doing the same thing…
I quite a stable full time job two years ago, and now I’m able to work whilst living in amazing places such as Bali. If I hadn’t had made that decision, I probably wouldn’t be very happy right now.
And guess what… the company I worked for now has new owners, and they’re making people redundant.
3. Travelling to the Other Side of the World
I’m a little bit biased here because I’ve done exactly that, and still have a lot of countries left to visit. And when I say travelling, I’m not talking about staying in an expensive hotel and sitting by the pool all day.
I’m talking about exploring everything a country has to offer; that means the highs and the lows. I’m talking about connecting with locals, seeing how they live, and attempting to experience the same. No matter which country your visiting.
I’ve done this in places like Bali, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia… the list goes on. Please, please, don’t spend your entire life never having explored what the world has to offer.
4. Ending an Average Relationship to Pursue More Opportunity
This is going to sting for some people. I know first-hand what it’s like to stay in a relationship because you’re scared to be alone, or you’re scared you’ll never find anyone else as good.
I admitted that my relationship didn’t feel right a few years ago. Something was missing, but I didn’t want to admit it to myself, because I was scared that I would end up being alone forever if I ended it.
Truth is, if you too feel like this, you need to take the risk, and end things to pursue something more. Ending a relationship also allows you to take many of the other risks on this list. Some of which you wouldn’t have been able to take whilst with someone else.
5. Starting A Business, No Matter What the Odds
Starting a business is not for everyone, I know. However, I’ve included it on this list, because I know how many people reading these articles want to start their own business, yet perhaps lack the courage to do so right now.
One of the scariest things is losing your regular income, and working long hours every week to build something that may or may not be able to replace it.
If you want to, do so.
6. Inspiring Others, Despite People Laughing at You
That’s what Educate Inspire Change is all about right? Inspire is in the title!
When I first started building a business around inspiring and helping other people, there were a lot of laughs and negative comments. But there were also a lot people, both strangers and old friends, who send me some awesome comments thanking me for my work.
Damn, that’s the best feeling in the world. Some of these people didn’t even talk to me that much when we were in school; but they were reaching out to thank me for the content I was producing.
Dedicate your life to inspiring others. You won’t regret it.
7. Putting 100% of Your Focus into ONE Thing
If you’ve ever done this, you’ll know how powerful the results can be. When you focus 100% of your efforts onto just ONE thing, you become an expert at it in no time. This means if bodybuilding is your passion, and you put 100% of your focus into it, you’ll advance at a rate of incredible rapidity.
The same with your business, the same with your career, with your relationships…
Need I go on?
It’s difficult to do this, but it pays off BIG time!
8. Following Your Own Path, Instead of the Path of Others
Another important thing to mention within this article, is that from the day we’re born, we’re all funnelled down a very similar path. School, College, and a 9-5 career, within which we work our way up the ladder.
That particular path is well worn, and there are plenty of people you can follow if it’s the one you wish to travel down.
However, if you wish to create your own path in life; one which will truly fulfil you… you will have to carve it out yourself. And that’s not easy. It’s risky, because you don’t know where it will lead.
Yet, pursuing it will give you the ultimate joy. Take a risk and create your own path, don’t follow the road everyone else is travelling down.
9. Moving to Another Country on Your Own
Instead of travelling, how about actually living in another country, and by yourself?
The reason this is so amazing is because it pushes you out of your comfort zone to the extreme. You might be surrounded by people who speak a different language to you, and are used to a different way of life than you.
If you do it on your own, then you are forced out of your comfort zone, into the unknown, and you’ll realize it’s incredibly enjoyable there!
