Meet Richard Overton, America’s oldest veteran. This man has lived through the Great Depression, served in World War II, and witnessed the rise of the Internet. From the Ford Model T to self-driving cars, more technological and scientific progress have occurred in Overton’s lifetime than perhaps any other century in history.
In this lively short film by Matt Cooper and Rocky Conly, hear the whiskey-drinking, cigar-smoking supercentenarian reveal his secrets to a long life.
Overton is considered one of the nation’s oldest World War II veterans — if not the oldest — and now requires round-the-clock care, his family said on a GoFundMe page. Instead of sending Overton to a nursing home, the family is raising money to provide the veteran with in-home care at his house in Austin.
“On behalf of the Overton family, we greatly appreciate any donations to help Richard stay in his home and receive in-home care,” said Volma Overton Jr. on the crowdfunding page.
