Michael Jordan, six-time NBA champion and Charlotte Hornets owner, unveiled the first of two medical clinics he funded in the city of Charlotte in North Carolina. The clinic will offer care for residents, including under-insured and uninsured patients.
Jordan gave an emotional speech at the opening on Thursday of the Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic.

The Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic is funded by a $7 million gift from NBA legend Michael Jordan.
“As you can see, it’s a very emotional thing for me to be able to give back to a community that’s supported me over the years,” he said, tearing up.
Two years ago Jordan committed $7 million to Novant Health for two clinics in Charlotte. The donation came with a pledge to provide resources to communities with little or no health care.
The clinic offers the usual primary and preventative care as well as behavioral health and social support services.

The facility of 6,800-square-foot has 12 exam rooms, an X-ray room and physical therapy space. A full time social worker will provide social supper services to patients.
“This clinic will not only provide access to medical care for those who need it most, but it will connect them to resources to ensure their health extends beyond the doctor’s office,” said Carl Armato, CEO and president of Novant Health.
The clinic is strategically placed in a neighborhood in great need for quality medical care.
“I believe that your ZIP code or neighborhood should not determine the quality of your health care — or whether or not you can even get care at all,” said Jordan in a statement.
In an effort to best serve the community’s needs, the clinic was constructed with significant input from community members through forums, meetings and recruitment in the area, residents in the area were given the opportunity to discuss what they needed and wanted most from the clinic.
