Undercover workers in a laboratory have released footage of screaming monkeys revealing brutal methods of torture used on animals. It is all being done in the guise of experiments by the German Laboratory of Pharmacology and Toxicology. The methods applied are reminiscent of methods used by the infamous Nazi doctor Dr Josef Mengele who performed inhuman experiments on concentration camp inmates. Only the inmates at this camp are innocent animals.

The clips were shot by activists of Cruelty Free International and Soko Tierschutz, a German animal rights organization that had successfully managed to gain access to the labs. It shows screaming monkeys being kept in small containers and strapped to metal harnesses inside the laboratory in Mienenbuttel in Neu Wulmstorf in Lower Saxony. There were also dogs and cats suffering various forms of torture all in the name of research.

A covert worker managed to gain employment at LPT after the lab advertised for fresh employees in the autumn of 2018. “In 2013, we also tried to get a job there, but were not successful. From December 2018 to March 2019, the undercover investigator worked in the lab.”, said Friedrich Mülln of Soko Tierschutz. The activist managed to finally get in and worked there between December 2018 and March 2019.

The undercover employee witnessed toxicology tests being done on various animals that included cats, monkeys, beagles and rabbits. The experiments were conducted for companies all over the world, including Germany. The animals were all kept in a dreadful environment and regularly subjected to brutal methods of torture.
Pipes were forced down the throat of beagles and capsules were thrust into their stomach. Some even bled to death.
Friedrich Mülln says: “The animals were even still waggling their tails when they were being taken to be killed, the dogs were desperate for human contact.” According to him: “The worst treatment was kept for the monkeys. The macaques breed of monkeys are small, relatively light primates, which are often used for animal experiments at LPT.” Plus, “They are kept in cramped conditions in small cages. Many of the animals have developed compulsive tendencies and are seen going round in circles.”

The cats are given as many as 13 injections every day by unqualified personnel and subjected to painful deaths. The untrained personnel also subject these animals to needless torture.
The testing laboratory, LPT is family-owned and carries out tests for various companies in the agrochemical, pharmaceutical and industrial sectors from around the world to meet standards set by regulatory authorities and the governments, according to Cruelty Free International.

As per Cruelty Free International: “Toxicity testing involves poisoning animals to see how much of a chemical or drug it takes to cause serious harm, in an attempt to measure what a ‘safe’ dose for humans might be. Animals are injected with or made to eat or inhale increasing amounts of a substance to measure the toxic effects which can be severe and include vomiting, internal bleeding, respiratory distress, fever, weight loss, lethargy, skin problems, organ failure and even death. No anaesthetics or pain relief are provided.”

Michelle Thew, chief executive of Cruelty Free International, said: “Our investigation has uncovered appalling animal suffering, inadequate care, poor practices and breaches of European and German law.”
“We are calling for the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Toxicology (LPT) to be closed. We are also calling for a comprehensive review into the use of animals in regulatory toxicity testing in Europe, including the UK.
“Every investigation, without fail, shows a similar tale of misery and disregard of the law.”

The activists have approached the police who are investigating the matter. They have also called for laws that protect animals to immediately be changed. They say that they aren’t stringent enough to deter violators such as LPT.
