Henry Charles Bukowski was an American poet, novelist, and short story writer. Bukowski’s writing was heavily influenced by the geography and atmosphere of his home city of Los Angeles, and is marked by an emphasis on the ordinary lives of poor Americans, the act of writing, alcohol, relationships with women, and the drudgery of work. A prolific author, Bukowski wrote thousands of poems, hundreds of short stories, and six novels, eventually having over 60 books in print.

Here is a superb video/remake of one of his most famous poems called ‘Roll The Dice’:

What I took from this poem is that you should do whatever your passion wants you to do. Do whatever it is that you will gladly give all your energy to – there will be a good chance it will eventually pay off. It doesn’t matter whether it is painting, poetry or breeding goldfish. Do it. Even if it doesn’t pay off financially, at least you will have had a good time and an interesting life.
