Recently, JK Rowling, author of the awesome Harry Potter book series, donated $19 million to fund multiple sclerosis (MS) research. Rowling lost her mother to the debilitating condition.
The recipients, the University of Edinburgh, will use the funds for further development of the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic.
GoodNewsNetwork reported that the clinic was built in 2010 after a substantial donation from Rowling who named the section after her mother, Anne, who, at age 45, died from MS.
‘’When the Anne Rowling Clinic was first founded, none of us could have predicted the incredible progress that would be made in the field of Regenerative Neurology, with the Clinic leading the charge,” said Rowling.
“I am delighted to now support the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic into a new phase of discovery and achievement, as it realizes its ambition to create a legacy of better outcomes for generations of people with MS and Non-MS Neurodegenerative diseases.”
Over and above escalating neurodegenerative treatments and cures, the funds will also finance the construction of facilities relating to the clinic.
Funds will also be set aside for use to study how healthcare workers can help improve the lives of patients suffering from similarly debilitating diseases.
“We are immensely honoured that J. K. Rowling has chosen to continue her support for the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic. This inspiring donation will fund a whole new generation of researchers who are focused on discovering and delivering better treatments and therapies for patients,” said Professor Peter Mathieson, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of The University of Edinburgh.
