Best friends since they met at work some 20 years ago, these ladies got on so well they used to joke about living together when they retire.

The joke turned serious when they saw an enormous unfinished house in a suburb of Guangzhou, China and became a reality when they decided to share the cost and bought the property and spent four million yuan (£462,000) on renovations.

The friends met at work 20 years ago and made a pact to buy a house one day and live in it
The three story home has floor to ceiling windows, a large open plan kitchen and a tea pavilion in the beautiful gardens.
Jin Du, Speaking to Yitiao said: “At first it was just a joke. We said we would get together when we were 60 and live retired life together. We’ll cook, have barbecues in the fields, sing and collect food from the village.”

The friends made a deal to each learn a useful skill, such as growing vegetables and cooking before they retire.
Now in their 30’s, they still have plenty of time before their children are grown up and independent when they’ll be able to make their move permanent.

Says Jin: “We’re all independent individuals but we can communicate and rely on each other at the same time. Ten years later our children would have all grown up. So we hope we can be together again in 10 years.”

Looks like the perfect alternative to living alone or in an assisted living facility which seems to be the norm in so many western cultures.
