96-Year-Old Holocaust Survivor Is Now the Epic Frontwoman for a Death Metal Band

I’m sure one would agree, holocaust survivors are true heroes. Especially when they manage to completely reinvent themselves even after everything they have gone through.

96 year old Inge Ginsberg is a strong example of how someone can turn their trauma into something rather amazing. She is now the front-woman for Inge & the TritoneKings, a death metal band.

After fleeing the holocaust, Inge found her way into a refugee camp in Switzerland. She was instated as a caretaker for a spy villa for the Secret Service over her stay.

Inge moved to the USA with her first husband after WW2 ended and the pair made it big in the Hollywood music industry as song writers, composing with Nat King Cole and Doris Day.

“I’ve never been a singer,” she says, “I’ve always been a writer.”  When she hit 93, her music writing style seemed to move in a different direction and leaned more towards death metal. She found that instead of singing, she could express them by shouting.

This took Ginsburg on a unique journey and in a documentary called  “Death Metal Grandma” which made it onto The New York Times website, filmmaker Leah Galant tells a story of Ginsburg and her life.

“It’s important to stay active and surround yourself with young people,” Ginsburg says, “and keep doing things you’ve never done before.”
