It’s been 34 years since Live Aid came to fruition, a concert which brought some of the greatest acts of its time together, all in aid of the Ethiopian famine.
Many bands brought the event to life, including David Bowie, U2, Paul McCartney and The Who, but there was a performance that stood high above the rest.

Led by Freddie Mercury, the most iconic performance ever was delivered by the enigmatic British rock group who burned through Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Ga Ga, We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions – imagine what it must have been like to be there.
It was reported that British legend Elton John called the group ‘b*******’ when they finally descended from the stage and over 3 decades later, the footage is sending chills down viewers’ spines when spotted on social media.
One person wrote:
“Thirty-four years ago today, I was 6 years old and I remember watching Live Aid on TV with my dad. Changed my life forever.”
Sharing a clip from the concert, another said:
“Wow, Live Aid was 34 years ago today. Best live musical performance I’ve ever seen on tv ever. Revitalized Queen’s & Freddie Mercury’s career.”

A third fan put:
“On this day, 34 years ago, in 1985, Queen performed during Live Aid and literally changed music history. The donations skyrocketed when Freddie started belting out those fantastic songs.”
Another added:
“On this day 34 years ago Queen gave one of the greatest performances in the history of rock at Live Aid #FreddieMercury.”
Event organizer, Bob Geldof even praised Queen, stating that they clearly stole the show.
Looking back at the day, he said:
“Queen were absolutely the best band of the day. They played the best, had the best sound, used their time to the full.
They understood the idea exactly, that it was a global jukebox. They just went and smashed one hit after another. It was the perfect stage for Freddie: the whole world. And he could ponce about on stage doing ‘We Are The Champions’. How perfect could it get?”

Rami Malek claimed to have watched the iconic performance over 1,500 times before he took on the role of the front-man in last year’s Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.
Speaking to news.co.au, he said:
“That’s something we tried to get move for move, even just gesture for gesture perfectly.
It felt like I had it in my bones and I didn’t want to keep going back to it. It felt like sometimes you would lose a little bit of the authenticity if you tried to nail it so perfectly.”
