Alex Cearns, an award wining photographer is the founder of Houndstooth Studio, where he takes portraits of dogs from around the world, telling their stories the best way possible.
Many are rescues and the entire project highlights their journey from pre to post adoption. Others are beloved pets.
A new book, called Perfect Imperfection: Dog Portraits of Resilience and Love has been released which showcases various pups which were in their most endearing moments.
“I love every animal I have the privilege of photographing, but those perceived as different hold a special place in my heart. These are the canines who have lost a leg, been born without eyes, or are still showing the scars of former abuse,” says Cearns.
From adorable Pip the puppy who was rescued from Bali, mangy and hairless, to other features like Raul the French Bulldog, who endures partial paralysis and Dotty who lost an eye to melanoma, each dog has such an inspiring back story.
“Bali Pip was a natural and loved being in the spotlight. She was a cute, inquisitive and playful pup. Her images later went viral and people from all over the world fell in love with her,” recalls Cearns.
Cearns says, “They push on, always, wanting to be included and involved in everything as much as they can, and as much as an able-bodied pet does.”
Each copy of Perfect Imperfection: Dog Portraits of Resilience and Love will assist the Australian Animal Cancer Foundation in their journey in finding a cure for canine cancer.
