Drawing inspiration from nature, Simone Crestani has created what we would consider “imperfect elegance”.
Beautiful blown glass sculptures taking the shape of biotic forms is her specialty.
With a wide array of fauna, flora and other organic objects coming to life, one sees borosilicate glass being transformed into showcasing decorative yet flawed details., from gnarled, twisted trunks of a blossoming bonsai to clustered bubbles and molecules.
Crestani regularly explores the imperfection of elegance in his sculptures, “In my works I love to see coexistence between fragile form and concrete details, hard contours and harmony of elegance,” he explains. “Glass is the perfect material to sum up these contrasts.” And much like the muses he draws inspiration from, blown glass is never perfect, making it the ideal material to utilize in creating intricate contrasts, which Crestani believes ultimately manifest on their very own accord.
“I shape the material, but the end result has an identity of its own,” the artist confides. “I help it to grow, and wait until it gives me an indication of the equilibrium that will allow it to express itself.”
