This Artist Creates Giant Wood Sculptures and Hides Them in Forests

Artist Thomas Dambo created his six forgotten giants for the Forests of Copenhagen who are now living in the forests where visitors can venture into nature not only to find the giants, but also to enjoy the glorious natural beauty.

The giants are made entirely from scavenged wood and assistance from local volunteers who help Dambo assemble his works. Each giant has been given a name of a volunteer. Dambo also created a map and hints such as poems engraved into stones to find the giants.

Dambo’s hidden giants ‘’invites the viewer to go on a treasure hunt, not only to see the sculptures, but also to discover hidden gems in nature,’’ he says.

Each giant was designed to interact with its environment. Teddy Friendly sits next to a lake and his extended arm helps people cross small stream feeding into the river, and  Little Tilde looks out from between two trees and provides cosy shelter for birds in winter with 28 bird boxes in her body.

Each giant created with salvaged materials, each placed with forethought in a different environment and each adding something special to wildlife and visitors alike.

Each hidden giant can be found with a treasure hunt map or hints in poems on rocks near each sculpture.

Each giant is made with recycled wood by Dambo and his willing volunteers, each adding their skills and experience to the team.
