Once upon a time, there was a sweet little 16 month old girl named Carter waiting to catch a plane with her former US Marine father Kevin Armentrout. They were still in Las Vegas, about to be on their way to San Diego, just sitting around at the gate with time to spare before boarding their airplane.
Also sitting there, in the same area but at a neighboring gate, was Joseph, a field sales manager for Samsung from Oklahoma waiting for his flight back home. Little Carter saw him sitting there and, being her friendly little self, befriended this fellow passenger in the airport.

Joseph happily invited her to sit next to him and the start of a beautifully heartwarming new friendship was born; a friendship that would go to prove that kindness has no boundaries. For 45 minutes, Joseph taught Carter how to draw pictures on his tablet, then they watched cartoons together and she generously shared her cheese puffs with him.
Armentrout was overjoyed. He was so inspired by the scene that he posted a photo of Carter and Joseph having a great time together on social media with a lovely statement to accompany it. He hopes that the image, and his daughter’s interaction, serves as an example for all, especially given the amount of divide and disagreement the people in the world face today.

Last night, while waiting to board our plane, @_carterjean_ was being her usual inquisitive self wanting to meet and say “hi” to everyone she could, until she walked up on this man. He reached out and asked if she wanted to sit with him. He pulled out his tablet and showed her how to draw with it, they watched cartoons together, and she offered him snacks. This wasn’t a short little exchange, this was 45 minutes. Watching them in that moment, I couldn’t help but think, different genders, different races, different generations, and the best of friends. This is the world I want for her.

In a country that is continuously fed that it’s so deeply divided by beliefs, I want her life to be filled with moments like this… not liberal or conservative republican or democrat, socialist or capitalist, just HUMAN.

If you check out the post you will see it has racked up over 200,000 shares (and almost 550,000 likes!)…meaning that the world is hungry for this sort of equality and borderless mentality amongst each other, for humanity. Now it is time, to not only dream of this sort of world, but to actually act upon it by loving each other and seeing beyond stereotypes and prejudices.
Armentrout said the two have spoken since publishing the photo and Joseph is doing well. They are all, so far, happily ever after.
