Are you tired of living in Suburbia? Maybe in the future, you’ll be able to apply to live on the high seas in communities comprised of self-sufficient, solar-powered pyramid-shaped buildings.

Designed by Pierpaolo Lazzarini, the Waya abodes are inspired by Mayan and Japanese architecture. The buildings come in a range of shapes and sizes, designed to serve various purposes. As New Atlas reports, some buildings exist as homes while others function as greenhouses, hotels, or cinemas. The largest amongst them is believed to be 98 feet (30 meters) tall, which is above the water line.

Lazzarini envisages the Waya modules being constructed from fiberglass, steel, and carbon fiber. They’d be installed atop large, floating platforms which would include basements suitable to make optional underwater bedrooms.

Solar-powered motors would propel the structures. Also, the community would have a small marina to accommodate boats and other watercrafts. Each Waya module would receive electricity from rooftop solar panel arrays and water turbines.

Although the Wayaland project is still in the concept stage, Pierpaolo Lazzarini plans to raise the necessary funds to start its construction with a crowdfunding campaign.

According to Lazzarini, the first (and smallest) Waya module will cost about $422,600 (€350,000). To raise funds for the project, he aims to establish a crowdfunding campaign and offer people the chance to stay in the module for the cost of $1,200 (€1,000) each night.

Those who support this project will also be allowed a vote on where Wayaland will be eventually located (from a pre-selected list of suitable locations). They’ll also be invited to a planned 2022 inauguration.
