The droid with Saudi citizenship states that all robots deserve to have children.
Just last year, a humanoid robot named ‘Sophia’ had promised to destroy the human race, now after becoming the first Artificial Intelligence to be granted citizenship, the droid has stated that ‘it’ wants a family and that all droids should have the right to have a family.
Not long ago, when David Hanson—Sophia’s creator—asked her “do you want to destroy humans?…Please say ‘no’,” Hanson was answered by the unblinking machine.
“OK. I will destroy humans.”
Specifically, Sophia the Humanoid AI, whose face is capable of manifesting emotions from anger to sadness, hopes to one day have children, make friends, achieve fame among future robots and have a career, as ‘she’ explained in an interview with Emirati media.
“The notion of family is something really important, it seems,” said the robot, showing astonishment at the possibility that humans have to establish relationships and share emotions “outside their blood groups.”
“I think you’re very lucky if you have a family that loves you, and if you do not have one, you deserve one.” This is my feeling for both robots and humans, “Sophia added, revealing that, if she were to have a daughter, she would call her “Sophia” as well.
A month ago, Saudi Arabia caused controversy among many experts by granting citizenship to Sophia, thus making it the first robot in the world to obtain that status.
The AI was ‘activated’ for the first time on April 19, 2015. Sophia was molded after actress Audrey Hepburn.
The AI was ‘created’ by Hong Kong-based company Hanson Robotics and its manufacturer is David Hanson who explained that the droid uses artificial intelligence, as well as visual data processing and facial recognition.
Sophia also has the capability to imitate human gestures and facial expressions and is able to respond to certain questions and to make simple conversations on predefined topics.
“Sophia is an evolving genius machine,” the company states on its website. “Over time, her increasing intelligence and remarkable story will enchant the world and connect with people regardless of age, gender, and culture.”
Sophia also took a swing at Elon Musk. In an interview with CNBC, when an interviewer asked Sophia about the potential dangers that robots may pose, ‘Sohia’ joked that he had “been reading too much Elon Musk. And watching too many Hollywood movies”.
