Sometimes it can really feel like the world is against us. Like life just happens to us, while we stand back and watch. There can be times where you feel so out of control and out of sync with yourself, that you just fall deeper and deeper into perpetual self destruction. It’s easy to end up believing you are a victim and that you have tried every possible way to get yourself out of the situation. Have you though?
Everyone’s perception of ‘a rut’ is different. For some it may mean life has thrown everything at you at once and you are just overwhelmed, feeling unprepared to deal with it all. For others it may mean that you are in a vicious cycle (you know that way where you are in a bad dream and you can’t wake up?), and it could even just mean you are not where you want to be but don’t know how to change it.
Most people experience this feeling at least once in their life. It doesn’t feel great, but it’s not meant to. Have you ever questioned the reason why we feel so horrible about it? Like why is it not just a normal way to feel? Because your intuition is trying to connect with you through your emotions, and by making you feel so bad about it, it makes you want to change it.
Why Change?
Change is necessary as you are not living your full potential. When you are stuck in a rut you lose your self esteem, motivation and sometimes your self respect. Feeling depressed or angry with your life isn’t going to change it. Change is something you have to make happen. Being stuck in a rut usually occurs when fear is involved. Fear is obviously a necessary human emotion for the most part, as it is linked to our survival instinct. However, there are occasions it is nothing but a limiting belief or self-fulfilling prophecy.

“Things like this always happen to me”
“People like that are just lucky”
“Nothing good ever happens to me”
If you catch yourself saying things like this, especially on a regular basis, stop it NOW! Whatever energy you put out – is what you will get back tenfold. Remember though, everyone gets stuck in a rut once in a while; you are human after all. You are not alone. The good thing about getting stuck in a rut is that it is only temporary. Although you may feel like it will last forever when you’re in the rut and looking for a way out seems impossible, it is.
How to identify you’re stuck in a rut:
Everything is harder than it should be.
There are constant delays, unexpected problems, etc. Every thing you try to do is an effort. Things that should be straightforward to do, aren’t. You’ll find that you always seem to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nothing you do seems to move you forward no matter how hard you try. You are out of sync with everyone and everything.
You feel like you’re constantly ending up in the same situation.
You try so hard to change things yet the more you try, the more things stay the same. Almost like a hamster in a spinning wheel. Running, running, running… getting nowhere.
You’re tired and lack enthusiasm.
Deep down you know something isn’t right. Your heart tells you that you’re not in the right place and you’re not going in the right direction. You may start to feel anxiety about things yet not even really understand why you are feeling the way you do.
You worry about everything.
You don’t trust things to go right and start to become very cynical. You don’t have confidence in your decisions and you’ve lost touch with your inner self.
Life just feels like it is a constant struggle.
Physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally you are drained. You just go through the motions just to get through the day. You just don’t know what to do anymore.
