It’s a thought I’ve pondered for some time now. Why is that we have this incessant need to be busy all the time? One way or another; we are all doing it!
In our social circles we are always doing ‘stuff’ and that’s exactly what it is ‘stuff’. Going out drinking, parties, social events, shopping, cinema, the list goes on… Does any of it really satisfy us?
Even in our alone time, we keep ourselves busy. We scroll through social media aimlessly, watch TV, text constantly, go to the gym, cook or clean. The real question is; are we emotionally invested in any of it?!
We are conditioned from such a young age to believe that we need to work hard, fill our lives with accomplishments and achievements, study, get a good job and be successful. Does any of it really matter? Well yes, I guess to an extent is does. I’m not suggesting that all of these things have no meaning or that they are completely pointless. I’m just suggesting that we never actually allow ourselves the time to just ‘be’.
I’ve always had an inquisitive nature and cannot rest if I do not know the way behind everything. To an extent that may be ego driven, but mostly it’s because I know that most of these things do not actually fulfil me on a soul level. So is it possible that other people feel the same and we just don’t communicate enough to know about it?
How weird is that. The idea that we could be out doing whatever it is we do with our fiends/family/partners and we are all silently thinking to ourselves ‘I don’t want to be here’ or ‘I don’t want to be doing this right now’. I’m not saying that we don’t want to be with those people, just that whatever it is we are doing is unnecessary to feel fulfilled or happy.
How many times have you said ‘I’m staying in this weekend’ and when the weekend comes you’ll be sitting alone, probably bored, and end up going out. It’s like we are almost afraid of being alone with ourselves. Have you ever thought:
What if I don’t like myself?
What if I’m silent long enough for my subconscious thoughts to come creeping up on me?
What if I spend too much time alone (and actually enjoy it) that you start losing your friends?
Spending time alone – being silent. Why is it that it should be the easiest thing in the world, yet it somehow seems to be the hardest?
The reasons you need to start spending time alone:
