Just like everyone else, I make mistakes. However, mistakes are what make us human, and by understanding that our mistakes are opportunities to reaching a better place, we can grow.

If you need some help along your journey, looking at my mistakes may be able to help you to learn without having to make them. When it comes to being the best person you can be, learning through all experiences is necessary. Always remember that you are not defined by your mistakes, but by what you make of them.

8 Most Common Mistakes People Make on Their Spiritual Journey:

1. Thinking of spirituality as a destination.

Spirituality is not a destination, it is a journey. You are never done improving yourself. Spirituality is not about reaching an end, it is about raising your mindfulness to a new level as often as possible.

2. Doing good things for your own gain.

You need to do good things because you want to not because you have something to gain in doing them. Racking up on good karma doesn’t work in the way you think it does.

3. Being too attached to your spiritual practices.

Don’t feel bad when you fail in doing something. While some people rely on their rituals to feel better about themselves, you don’t have to be one of those people. Only do your daily meditation if it is what you truly want to do, don’t do it out of fear of disappointing yourself.

4. Thinking you are above others.

You are not better than anyone else, not even those who are completely ‘unenlightened.’ No one is more important than someone else. We are all equal!

5. Looking for answers externally.

You will not find any answers without diving deep within. Sitting down with yourself and truly focusing on your life, in general, is the only way you will get anywhere. Just breathe.

6. Trying to be positive all the time.

Sometimes you can’t be positive and that is okay. Sure, we all need to strive to be the best we can be, but if you need to feel sadness or something else along those lines, feel it. It is okay to feel your own emotions.

7. Being a doormat.

We are not here for other people to walk all over. You should never let other people take advantage of you no matter how much you want to help them. Your own well-being is more important than the well-being of others.

8. Being too pushy.

While other people may not be on the same level of spiritual awakening as you, that does not mean you should push other people to become like you. Other people can only become awake when they are ready. This is something they must do on their own time in the same way that you began your journey to begin with.

If you are struggling with something, just remember that no matter what it is, you will make it through. You will come out a better person for all you are going through and there is a lesson in everything. If you take the time to learn the lessons placed in front of you, all of your mistakes will become useful coincidences.
