10 Movies That Will Profoundly Change Your Life

For quite sometime now movies have been a way to teach people important lessons about life, love, and the importance of happiness. However, some films are much more than what they appear to be, and many have the power to truly touch us on a deep and emotional level.

These movies are the ones that will truly stay with us forever, they change our perception of reality and really make us think about how we choose to view the world. Below you will find a list of the 9 movies that have challenged everything I thought I knew about the world.

1. Fight Club

The first rule of fight club: “You don’t talk about fight club.”

Fight Club was released back in 1999, and has captured the minds of all who have viewed it. The talent alone in this film was enough to make it worthy of cult status, but the plot twists and ‘madness’ of it all made it even better.

2. Dead Poets Society

The Dead Poets Society is a movie that will live on forever. You will laugh, cry, and never be able to think in the same way again. This movie is about an all boy’s prep school with unrealistic standards and a fantastic teacher who brings a whole new meaning to the word unconventional.

3. The Pursuit of Happyness

This tearjerker is about a single father and his son on their journey to find ‘happyness.’ If you were not aware of how to overcome all of the struggles and obstacles that come along with life, this movie will truly teach you!

4. Mr. Nobody

This one will have you feeling thankful for your life, as well as have you questioning reality as it is, and whether it is what it should be. While it can be a bit hard to follow, if you can you will love it!

5. The Karate Kid

Yes, the karate kid! This one was a favorite of mine growing up, and if you’ve ever watched it you know why. It is the story of a young boy who embraces king fu to control his emotions. He learns about respect and how he should have it for those who are close to him. While there is nothing wrong with the remake, the original is a thousand times better. If you can find it, I highly suggest that you watch it!

6. Good Will Hunting

This film is about Will Hunting, a janitor at MIT who is pretty much a genius.  A psychologist (Robin Williams) helps him to figure out what he wants from life, and well… the rest is history! This movie is a well rounded ball of emotions, it will make you laugh, it will make you cry, and it will make you smile harder than you ever have before. However, the lessons learned in this film will stay with you for the rest of your days.

7. The Blind Side

I am sure that by now most people have watched this movie, it is one film that truly lived up to its hype. This one is based on the true story of Michael Oher, who was adopted by a loving family that helped him overcome everything life threw his way, and (spoiler alert) become an All-American football player. This movie had me crying like a baby, but it taught me everything I needed to know about the power of love.

8. Pay It Forward

In this film, a young boy tries his best to make the world a better place, and you should know that it is one of the most tear jerking movies I have ever watched. I would say more, but I don’t want to give anything away. Please, if you are going to watch one movie on the entire list, make it this one!

9. Hachi: A Dog’s Tale

I could watch this movie on repeat for the rest of my life, and I would never get tired of it. It is about a man and his bond with an abandoned dog that he takes into his home. Believe me, after you watch this movie you will have an all new respect for all animals in general.

10. What Dreams May Come

What Dreams May Come is a movie about a man named Chris Nielson (Robin Williams) who dies in a car crash. After he dies he is guided through the afterlife by his spirit guide, Albert. His new world is beautiful and can be whatever Chris imagines. Even his children are there. But, when his wife, Annie, commits suicide and is sent to hell, Chris ignores Albert’s warnings and journeys there to save her. Upon arrival, Chris finds that rescuing Annie will be more difficult than he’d imagined.

While this movie may not be for the faint of heart, it is one that anybody suffering with depression or even the loss of a loved one should watch. After the death of my grandmother this movie helped me more than any person ever could.
