12 Things You Should Never Say to Someone With a Mental Illness

0
0

Approximately 43.8 million adults experience mental illness each year. Based on that information, it is likely that you know at least a handful of people that are going through it as I write this.

With that being said, I am sure that you even realize that you have a depressed friend or an aunt with bipolar. However, what you may not realize is that there are certain things that can be said to someone who is going through a rough time that will only make matters worse. And despite your opinions or knowledge regarding their condition, sometimes the best thing you can do is listen. But, if you would like to give some insight, at least avoid saying the following.

1. So many people have it worse than you.

While this is completely true, it doesn’t solve the fact that the person you are speaking to is in pain. It doesn’t remove their pain, and it doesn’t make them suddenly better. Instead, this phrase causes more harm than good.

2. Everyone goes through that phase.

This is not a phase, it is an illness. It isn’t trendy, or fun. It sucks, and I have to live with it. Please treat me with kindness.

3. Calm down.

If I could just calm down, I would have done that, to begin with.

4. Why can’t you just be happy?

I wish I had a good answer to that, and it hurts that I don’t.

5. Maybe you should take your medication.

My medicine is not here to take away my personality, and every mood that I have does not need to be eradicated with a pill. I take my medication for me, not for everyone else, and not because they are a quick fix.

6. You are so lazy sometimes!

There is a huge difference between lazy and sick, and this is something I battle with personally.

7. Stop making excuses.

My illness is not an excuse.

8. You make yourself anxious.

No, actually, I have an anxiety disorder. And telling me this doesn’t make it go away.

9. Everyone has something.

This is NOT true. Please look at the statistics listed above.

10. How are you managing? (among other complicated questions)

While I appreciate being checked on, I don’t want to feel as though everyone feels sorry for me.

11. You have every reason to be happy.

I know, that’s the problem.

12. Grow up.

Mental illness has nothing to do with age or behavior. It is a disorder that stems from within my brain.

If You Experience Any Of These 14 Signs You Have Successfully Merged Your Darkness And Light…

0
0

Humans are basically dual in nature. Our core is made up of light and darkness. But one seeks a home, a place where they feel they must be. This place is within, in the heart center. And you are the whole!

We are used to seeing light and darkness as 2 separate things that go against each other, forever at war, one must destroy the other. But this point of view is just our human narrative trying to explain to ourselves these 2 elements.

We fail to realize that these 2 sides, or light and darkness as we call them, are 2 elements of the same thing. They don’t compete with each other, they do what they supposed to do so the thing they are a part of can thrive!

For us, the purpose of each of them seems so contradictory to the other that we can’t help but think they are at war. But that’s just what our dualistic point of view sees.

That’s like saying that a night and a day are at war. Both of these occurrences happen so life can thrive on Earth.

We are conditioned for duality!

We’re conditioned to choose between good and bad, love and hate, better and worse, winning and losing, bigger and lesser, success and failure, etc. etc.

This mind conditioning becomes the seat of our consciousness and cycles into the victim and perpetrator mindset.

This mindset is aggressively obsessed with what is the moral high ground versus what is immoral. We follow a morally correct path over what it is perceived to be immoral without even considering the place where our actions are coming from.

And sooner or later, what we perceive as moral promotes negative results that lead to immoral activity. This happens because we focus too much on not being immoral rather than the reason and intent behind our actions.

We care more about looking moral in eyes of others, or before a higher entity, than the intent behind what we do.

Of course, we are not suggesting immoral behavior, but a deeper examination before we judge. And yeah, not all of us have time to dive deeply behind someone’s actions, but if we didn’t live in such dualistic system that’s integrated EVERYWHERE in society, we wouldn’t have to.

The system that is not based on duality will prevent future immoral actions from happening itself, by not letting others be pushed that far in the first place.

The dualistic system of society, and society itself is what drives many people to make immoral actions, not that this is an excuse because they are still weak in character.

As a result, we don’t really improve as society, we just try to look improved and blame others who don’t fit that description not realizing that most of our actions are what created the actions of the ones we blame.

How to merge your duality into oneness?

Within the framework of victim and perpetrator mindset, the two energies of light and darkness could never be integrated into one.

The human interpreter separates them through fragmentation and is unable to see them as one and of the same energy, because what they perceive is either positive or negative.

People don’t realize that both sides are there to serve the whole. So, for example, one would think of fear as bad and have negative emotions whenever they feel it. They would not realize that fear is there to let you know what is possibly dangerous so you will rationally think of a safety plan. And they would run away from fear not realizing that they are running exactly towards what they are afraid of.

So as a result, feelings like guilt, anger, envy, resentment, and anxiety are accumulated in their being. This creates dys-function in the body and in the relationships people have.

These accumulated negative emotions we run away from dealing with can promote further disharmony and disbalance creating various diseases. One example is Cancer which thrives on guilt, resentment, and anger.

But when the interpreter starts to align with both the light and the dark energies as one, the filters dissolve along with the right and wrong paradigm, and the victim and perpetrator mindset disappear.

The DNA field starts to change and allows the greater percentage of it to be activated. Research has shown that in the presence of negative emotions the DNA tightens while when you are more relaxed the coils of your DNA relax too.

The vibration instantly changes and no longer allows any disbalance within the body and the external relationships that are dominated by right or wrong framework.

Changes in everything take place, such as in the body, relationships, view of other people, view of the world, and above all, the love of self.

One is no longer preoccupied with thoughts of past pain and future anxiety that are prevailing in right and wrong paradigm. There’s an increase in self-worth as well as an escalation of authenticity.

Here are 14 signs you will experience if you’ve merged your darkness and light and transcended duality:

– You start noticing high amount of synchronicities.

– You get along in all relationships.

– You’re able to easily connect with others without the need of imposing.

– You find kindness and cooperation in places where antagonism and confrontation once thrive.

– You see the benevolence in everyone and everything without the need to highlight what’s wrong in the world.

– You look for problems and solutions inside and not outside.

– Your lifestyle becomes more relaxed and easygoing.

– Much of your ego driven desires dissolve, things you thought you always wanted to do suddenly feel pointless. This could leave you with a sense of confusion, even emptiness.

– You are completely ok with your darkness, you are not hiding nor being controlled by it.

– Movies, music and other drama infused media is no longer appealing to you, it might be even funny.

– You start appreciating nature a lot more, you are amazed by the perfect balance that is integrated inside.

– You are not against technology, but you see it as something that could be tweaked to become a part of nature and not another system that harms it.

– You suddenly get huge chunks of information and understanding about different things, your mind starts racing connecting different things all at once, and it might produce anxiety or even mild panic in some cases.

 – You start forgiving people easily, you don’t hate, you might even think there’s something wrong with you that you don’t hate others who might want to harm you.

Full Moon In Capricorn: Intensity And Evolution

0

CARMEN DI LUCCIO

We are having a Full Moon in Capricorn on either July 8th/9th, depending on your location. The astrological energies of the Full Moon can start to become noticeable in the days leading up to it and will remain fairly strong in the days following. The planetary configuration at this time also influences the following two weeks, until the next Moon cycle begins.

Full Moons are the most emotionally charged time of the month. With the Sun being in Cancer, this Moon brings out the opposing polarity of Capricorn, and we may feel the energies of each sign either collaborating or challenging each other.

The Sun is masculine, which represents our ego needs/impulses, and the Moon is feminine, representing emotional needs/impulses. This polarity can play out in different ways, as we can feel it within ourselves as well as experience it influencing our relationships and the world around us. However, it can sometimes be hard to tell if each side of it is coming from a place of ego or emotion, especially this time around with the Sun in Cancer.

Full Moon in Capricorn Conjunct Pluto, Sun in Cancer Conjunct Mars

The Sun has been in Cancer of the tropical zodiac since the solstice on June 21st, when the Sun’s rays directly aligned with the the Tropic of Cancer on our planet. During this current astrological month, there may be an extra emphasis on family, domestic life, self-care, emotional sensitivity, and bonding with others. Cancer is also about nurturing, vulnerability, comforts, and security.

While Cancer is more domestic, Capricorn is more of a worldly sign. It is about our ambitions, management, structure, discipline, and responsibilities. It is pragmatic, realistic, conservative, and determined. Capricorn takes steps toward masterful achievement, which is symbolised by the goat that steadily and cautiously climbs the steep mountain.

Pluto is very close to this Full Moon and Mars is close to the Sun, which can add some intensity and give it a Scorpio flavour. In a positive light, Pluto is a powerful force and can be empowering, transformative, and regenerating, and can help us to purge what is not serving us. It can also trigger fears, but also help us move beyond them. Hidden matters and deep urges can also surface and some people may even notice obsessive tendencies. Manipulation and power struggles can manifest, and when combined with Capricorn, this sign can be controlling and dominating.

Mars aligned with the Sun in Cancer can be passionate as well as make us assertive about emotional attachments and comforts. In some cases it can even facilitate conflict in relation to them, and it can be protective of these things as well as loved ones. Like Pluto, Mars in Cancer can also be be manipulative, but usually in either a protective or defensive way, and in some cases when one is seeking nurturing or connection with others.

Chiron Recently Went Retrograde

Chiron is known as the “Wounded Healer” and recently went retrograde on July 1st, a period that will last until December 5th. The weeks leading up to the retrograde and following are generally when we notice its effects the most, as it is stationary and changing motion. It is classified as a minor planet, being actually a comet nucleus caught in an irregular orbit between Saturn and Uranus.

Chiron’s influence here can be more subtle for some but strong for others, depending on how it is influencing your natal chart (based on your exact birth date and time). Generally this is a time to reflect on your personal challenges, wounds, blockages, restrictions, negative patterns, and fears that have come up for you in the last four months and maybe have been more noticeable in recent weeks.

Considering that it is in a loose square aspect with Saturn, perhaps you need to consider getting real and/or more attentive around these challenges. Understand the root of them to help you transcend and unlock more of your gifts and who you truly are. If you are a healer or teacher of some sort, this can be a time for reflecting on how you share your gifts with others.

Chiron is also associated with all things holistic. It is known as the bridge between the physical and spiritual, but it can also serve as a barrier before being unlocked. Chiron can be a bridge in other ways as well, as it can combine and synthesize two different worlds. When we become more self-aware, heal, own, or even transcend our blockages, we unlock a doorway into an untapped component of our higher self.

Things To Consider During This Period

For some, the energies of this Full Moon can help to facilitate a major step in personal evolution. This is a time to consider what the universe is trying to show you to help you transform, purge, and be empowered. Any conflicts, challenges, or even opportunities that arise at this time can be directly related to that notion. As Capricorn is an ambitious Cardinal sign, this can also be about initiating some sort of action to help you achieve something and moving beyond any fears getting in the way of that.

If you decide to use this energy for any type of conscious release, it is best to start that when the Moon starts to wane, which is right after the peak of the Full Moon, and even over the following two weeks. If you are a health enthusiast or otherwise into cleansing and detoxing, the next few weeks can be a good time to begin a detoxification regimen targeted at releasing harmful calcium deposits and buildup which is one of the primary culprits of accelerated aging and astrology, astrology readings, carmen di lucciodegeneration. This Full Moon will peak at its totality exactly at 4:07am Universal Time. You can click here to find out when that is in your time zone.

They are perhaps the ultimate dinner party guests. Stalin engages Leonardo da Vinci in conversation, Beethoven serenades Audrey Hepburn on the piano and Shakespeare is sandwiched between Elvis and Mozart. Bill Clinton raises a glass in cheer, while Churchill smokes a cigar and Margaret Thatcher looks on.

And surrounding them all are images of some of Man’s defining creations – Stonehenge, the Pyramids and the car.

This extraordinary painting by little-known-Taiwanese artists Dai Dudu, Li Tiezi and Zhang An (who appear in the top right of the picture), which also features some Chinese communist leaders and poets little known outside Asia, has become the latest internet hit – with people fascinated by the challenge of trying to identify all 103 figures.

How To No Longer Take Things So Personally

0
0

We all take things too personally from time to time, however, it is when it takes control over us that it becomes a problem. And while you may not think that it does, there is a chance that it could.

However, there are a number of thoughts, and tips that can be followed in order to stop taking things so personally.

1. You can’t control the thoughts of others.

No matter what someone thinks of you, you can’t change it. Everyone has an opinion, but when it comes down to it, the only one that should truly matter to you are the ones that you let matter.

2. The only person who can control how you feel is you.

You can’t control someone else’s thoughts, but you can control how you respond.

3. It’s not about you, it’s about them.

People typically project their own insecurities onto other people in order to avoid facing themselves. Don’t let that get you down.

4. Listen to what they have to say, and move on.

Don’t buy into the opinions of others. While they all have value in their own way, you have the right to choose the thoughts you value.

5. What’s the worst possible outcome?

What is the worst possible outcome of their opinion? Are your feelings hurt a little? Shake it off. You are still intact, and you have to control how you perceive this moment.

6. Be yourself.

No matter what others think, always be yourself.

7. You don’t have the energy to burn.

Think about it, we can barely gather the necessary energy for normal tasks. Don’t waste that precious energy worrying about what other people say or think.

8. You can’t change someone’s, heart.

While it may be tempting to save the world, you can’t. Some people are just negative, so move along.

9. Protect your heart.

If we allow every harsh word said to us to embed itself into our soul, we would all be dark. Don’t let that happen.

10. Learn to forgive.

Sometimes, the best thing to do is just forgive the person and move along.

11. Have peace.

Make it your motto, and stamp it on your hand. Peace is the goal, always.

12. Live your life.

Live your life and never let anyone get you down. While that may sound easier said than done, it’s a simple task.

A Study Reveals: Your Body Knows When Death Is Near, And It All Begins In The Nose

0
0

The concept of human mortality intrigues us. Countless doctors and nurses report on comments that have been made by their patients prior to dying, comments that would lead one to believe that they were aware it was time, even if there weren’t solid health reasons indicating such.

Many of us have seen a friend or family member who appears to have a sixth sense, suddenly making the efforts to get their affairs in order shortly before their own passing. These people will sometimes take drastic steps, as if they know that their time is running short, repairing long broken relationships, or giving away the possessions that they hold dear.

The question becomes, did they take these actions because they were aware of their impending death, or was it purely coincidence?

death, putrescine, scent of death, detecting death

A study conducted by Arnaud Wisman from the University of Kent’s School of Psychology and Ilan Shrira from the Department of Behavioral Sciences in Arkansas’ Tech University shows that there may be solid evidence that they were able to detect that they were dying – through scent!

When the body dies, it breaks down, and there are scents that are released including putrescine. This foul scent is a result of the decomposition process. While consciously the human mind may not acknowledge the scent, and make the connection, the subconscious mind recognizes this odor and it triggers an immediate response.

death, putrescine, scent of death, detecting death

Wisman and Shrira conducted a series of four different experiments, each using putrescine, ammonia and water. Study participants were exposed to the chemicals, and their reactions to the scent were recorded. When exposed to the putrescine, the immediate response was to move away from the area. The participants did not recognize the scent, nor were they aware that they had responded in a negative manner.

“People are not familiar with putrescine and do not consciously associate it with death or fear,” the two researchers explained.

This study is only part of a much larger topic of interest for Wisman, the Psychology of ‘Scent’. In his bio on the University of Kent website he wrote, “Scents can communicate many things such as danger, whether something is edible, whether a partner is suitable, and even how others feel. Interestingly, the latest research suggests that humans too, can communicate various emotions such as fear and stress via scent.”

death, putrescine, scent of death, detecting death

Another documented example of this is the way in which sex pheromones are released by the body to help in attracting a mate. The researchers discussed the similarities and differences between the two chemicals, stating, “Putrescine signals a different type of message than pheromones, but people’s responses to putrescine (avoidance and hostility) do seem indeed to be the opposite of responses to many sexual pheromones.”

Further study into this field will, most likely, reveal a whole subconscious level of communication between human beings that was, up until recently, unknown!

“Glitch in the Matrix”: 5 Experiences That Suggest Reality Isn’t Real

0
0

Did you know there is a type of psychic-ish phenomena people call a “glitch?”

Kind of similar to a déjà vu, or a premonition, or precognition, a glitch is where a person perceives something that breaks the laws of physics and reality, seeing perhaps the same person in a crowd walk by twice in exactly the same way moments after each other, a man checking out groceries the exact same way twice on the same day with no recollection of being there before, things that happen twice or break the laws of reality.

Think of it what you will, if the stories are true it’s evidence of something.

I discovered several stories of people recalling their glitches online, even an entire subreddit called “Glitch in the Matrix.”

Researching precognition and trying to understand why people have dreamt scenes in their lives that exactly came true later, I stumbled upon this concept and realized it might have happened to me when I was 11.

When I was 11, my family and I were moving out of a house and I saw my dad walk to his car, open the door and get inside. I was standing by a tree in the front yard, at a distance to where I couldn’t see his face inside the car, but I clearly saw him exit the house and get in the car.

Then I walked over to the car wondering why he wasn’t leaving, and he wasn’t there. It really freaked me out.

Then a few months later I was in school, and I saw a girl with blonde hair and a green backpack walk past me down a long hallway.

Within less than a minute while I was walking down the hallway, the exact same girl walked past again the same way. I’m positive I saw her twice, walking all the way past me. I wondered if I was going crazy at the time, and never found an answer until a few days ago when I found this phenomena of “glitches.”

But my story isn’t nearly as interesting as these:

According to Reddit user blackcat104 in a post titled “Not sure what happened to me today at work…”:

“So to start things off, I love reading this reddit. It is one of my favorites. I’ve never experienced a glitch or anything before personally so I don’t know if what happened to me today was anything at all or I’m just losing it. I’m a cashier, to help get through college and all that. Very boring job. But I usually work at the express (7 items or fewer) lane at my store. I work nights a lot too. The other day around 7pm, it was kinda slow and I was only getting customers about once every ten minutes. A man about 40 and his two kids came through the line and bought frozen pizza, ice cream, beer and a few other household things. I had a casual conversation, checked his ID for alcohol (it’s store policy to ID everyone) and he left. Another five or so minutes go by and I see the man coming in my line again. I asked if he had forgotten something and he looked confused and said “What are you talking about?” I looked at his items and they were the exact same as before. He was with the same two kids and everything. I just stood there confused and asked if he had just been in. He said no and I laughed uncomfortably and said it must have been someone who looked just like him but I know it was the same man as before. I even had to check his ID again and it was the same man. It was crazy. I asked the girl next to me if she saw him twice and she said she wasn’t really paying attention but she thought he only came through my line once. The whole situation was very odd.

What do you guys think?”

According to Reddit user smol-bean-dean in a post titled “My Reflection Glitched”:

“The scariest thing that happened to me was last year. I’m still scared to look in the mirror some times. I looked in the mirror and was doing my make up and I blinked and my reflection blinked right after me. I saw my reflection blink. It wasn’t when I blinked, it blinked after I did.”

According to Reddit user ogmarker in a post titled “So, this happened yesterday and this seems like the appropriate place to post it.”:

“I meant to post this yesterday but fell asleep after I got home and forgot lol.

So, I wake up at 5:00am yesterday for work. Head out the house at around 5:30am. As you can imagine, there’s hardly anyone on the street. So I’m about halfway to work when I catch a red light. A little ahead of me there’s a guy on a moped. It looks like he’s going to stop at the light, but then he makes a right.

So now, I’m the only one at the light. No one behind or next to me. I look in the rear view mirror, no one for at least 200 feet in back of me. The light turns green. I accelerate and happen to look in my rear view mirror again as I pass the intersection. What I see next….

The guy on the mo-ped making a right at the intersection. The same thing that I saw 12-18 seconds before, happening again. It was insane. My windows aren’t tinted so I’m always super aware of people pulling up next to me. I’m still not sure what to make of that. There was no one next to me or near me when the light turned green.

Maybe this isn’t a “glitch” but I thought u guys might appreciate the story”

According to Reddit user iamaghost:

“Thank you fellow anonymous Redditors.. I’ll get right to it.

Last night I woke up 2 different times. Both times were due to this really loud odd sounding tone. Just like beeep.. the second time was from a second beeeep with different tones to it but interchanging. These two sounds woke me up because ( this is where I sound totally crazy ) they were not coming from an outside source.. I woke up and recognized wow that was from inside my head..

Not too weird right? I just put it to me being really tired. Didn’t think much of it. Until my husband called me on his lunch like he does everyday and said wow what is that sound?! I couldn’t hear anything but he said it sounded exactly like one of those 2 way radios going in and out. It only happened once.

That made me me remember last night and that is exactly the noise I heard but it was coming from inside my head.?!

I have no clue on this. I know for a fact I don’t have any metal plates in my head. Maybe it was just coming from my phone which is on my bedside table I guess?

Now after I get off the phone with my husband earlier this afternoon I’m pondering this and thinking well that’s pretty odd. I’m standing there doing dishes just thinking and looking out the kitchen window. A white van dives by.. the only reason I noticed this is because the driver looked like he was picking his nose.. which made me kinda laugh. I kid you not no more than 3 min later the same van and driver go by doing the same thing?!”

According to Reddit user Tea Orchid’s post:

“This seemed like a good place to tell this story. Perhaps someone has had a similar experience.

This happened to me last December. My fiance, baby, four year old and I were staying with my parents for a few months waiting on an apartment to be finished and ready for us to move in. We were there about five months.

The room the four of us shared was downstairs, directly below a bathroom and my parents room. The bed we slept in faced a wall of big floor-to-ceiling shelves that my dad had built into the wall.

One morning I was having a hard time waking up, blearily struggling to open my eyes as I could feel the bright winter sun on my face. I cracked my eyes a little and blurily saw the shelves across the room, as usual. Suddenly, the entire wall of shelves shifted, sharply moving to the left a couple feet, and then back, so suddenly that my brain immediately thought, “Thats funny. I must still be sleeping. I totally thought I was awake.” I closed my eyes again for a few moments and then opened them quickly. The same series of tall white shelves faced me, and again, so swiftly and unexpectedly, the entire thing slid to the left and then back again, like that bar thing on a typewriter. Very mechanical. By now I knew I was awake. I was the only one in the room besides the sleeping newborn, who never woke for this.

I left the room confused, telling myself it was some sort of wierd leftover dream state hallucination. Later that morning over coffee, my mom stared out the window and remarked quietly, “My bed was shaking this morning. It was so wierd.”

I was intrigued and asked her to explain. She set down her cup and told me how she woke up earlier in the morning and saw the sun coming in through the window, and as she was just waking, her bed felt like it moved suddenly to the left, and then back. She sat up, startled and quite awake, but it didn’t do it again. I hadn’t thought twice about my experience or her saying her bed shook, not until she described the way it shook, the particular shifting motion, just once and quite abruptly. As it someone slid it over and then back quickly. In a room located directly above the wall of shelves in my room. With the occurrences happening about the same time.

I told her my own story then of that morning, and her eyes widened at my description of how the wall moved. We agreed it was bizarre and, with nothing to do, simply left it at that. I have never experienced anything like it since.”

Some suggest “glitches” are evidence of this reality being some kind of computer simulation, or that we are alive in another existence and simply dreaming this one while primarily existing there. Several theories arise organically in people after experiencing this type of thing: it seems every person’s guess is as good as the next.

Think of this what you will, in any case it’s something that definitely raises some questions about the nature of time and reality.

7 Underlying Causes Of Anxiety That Are Hidden Deep Inside Your Mind And Body

“Worrying is carrying tomorrow’s load with today’s strength- carrying two days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.”― Corrie ten Boom.

Anxiety is a very complicated concept and idea. The causes aren’t obvious which makes it harder to find solutions. Not all symptoms line up and produce a finely calculated inference. Also, it may take years or months to decipher the causes, symptoms and solutions. Sometimes your reactions may not match with the established medical study…

HOW DO PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS LIKE THESE HAPPEN?

Well, it is difficult to pin point one single incidence of your life as the sole reason for anxiety issues, bipolar diseases or PTSD et al. Usually psychological problems can be mapped onto plural incidences, and by mapping your psychological issues you get nearer to the solution. Sometimes the causes aren’t obvious at all and your therapist may even not ask you about tiny details. Their focus could be the problem but not the root of it.

Here are 7 underlying causes that may be responsible for your anxiety:

1. Physical ailmentsDigestive disorders, migraines, diabetes and cardiac issues sometimes can be the cause and symptoms of anxiety disorder. In such cases, the body physically incurs ailments as a result of anxiety. This may also work in reverse fashion. Due to some ailments one develops anxiety disorder and further worsen their physical condition.

“Our anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strengths.”― Charles Haddon Spurgeon.

2. Emotional abuse: This is the hardest to detect. No one can see the abuse except the victim and mostly the victim believes it’s a form of ‘tough love’. Manipulation, coercion, control and intimidation are some of the ways in which this abuse works. Even if the victim free themselves of the abuse, they need a lot of time to heal and can be anxious around humans. The victims inculcate a general propensity for anxiety and have profound trust issues in life.

“The scars from mental cruelty can be as deep and long-lasting as wounds from punches or slaps but are often not as obvious.”― Lundy Bancroft

 3. Lack of purpose and drive: I have personally suffered from this one and honestly this may seem inconsequential but can mess you up really bad. Usually when a person lacks a long term goal or a purpose to kickstart the morning, they start getting agitated. This can surely result in an anxiety disorder. For any person to feel motivated and inspired it is a necessity to have purpose and drive.4. Empathy: The need to be empathetic and thinking of others way too much can also lead to anxiety. Due to your own emotional intelligence, you become open to criticism and may suffer from social anxiety. Empathetic people have soft hearts which make them prone to vulnerabilities.

5. Medications: Certain types of medicines causes anxiety disorders, especially asthma medications may cause anxiety or make anxiety symptoms worse. Even those common cold medicines sometimes are the cause of anxiety, making heart rate increase and cause breathing problems too.

6. Genetics: Even if none of the above happens with you, there is also a chance that you could be pre-dispositioned to suffer from anxiety. It has to do with your genes. Though it is not set in stone, some people may inherit mental disorders and some may not.

7. Substance abuse: This can be a serious cause for anxiety disorders and mental illness. Anxiety can stem from long term alcohol and drug abuse.

This list is long but not wholly exhaustive. Anxiety can be mapped onto many more explanations and differ from individuals.

However, if detection of cause is right on time, its easier to lessen the magnitude and harm.

Divers Shocked To Find Large Sea Animals Chained Underwater Inside Cages

Fair warning: The following images are incredibly disheartening. Divers recently exploring the waters near the remote island of Kokoya, Indonesia, were shocked to find large sea creatures chained underwater, trapped inside small cages. The animals, dugongs, are known as “underwater cows” because of their size.

Can you imagine being trapped in a tiny cage your entire life, perhaps not even being able to turn around? The sad reality is that many animals live like this because of the way humans treat them.

They were even held in separate cages rather than allowed to keep each other company.

Apparently the animals were captured by a local fisherman who hoped to turn the caged animals into a tourist attraction. The individual said, “He asked for some money if we want to see the dugong or take a picture.” He added that the divers could take photos and videos in the cage with the mother if they wanted to.

One of the divers, Delon Lim, explained, “The ropes are worn and torn. The scars and the wound on her tail are so deep. It was very heartbreaking.”

They then tried to convince him to release the animals. “When we left the island, the fisherman agreed to release them,” Lim said. However, he and the other divers weren’t confident he would actually free them, so they took to social media in hopes of creating enough backlash to compel him to do so.

The following photos were taken by the divers and posted on social media:

You can watch the video they took of the underwater trapped creatures here.

Only a few hours after the video was posted online, the wildlife authorities contacted them asking for the precise location of the animals. The next day, the authorities set the animals free.

Final Thoughts

This is an incredible example of how one person can make a huge difference. This diver saw what was happening to these poor creatures and decided to stand up for them and ensure that they get the freedom they deserve.

This is also a wonderful example of how powerful social media and the internet can be. What we post online has the power to reach so many people all over the world, and it’s proof that simply educating one another and informing people can make tangible, positive changes in the world.

That being said, it’s time that we put an end to all animal cruelty. Though this is a horrible example, other terrible acts of violence are being committed against animals all over the world every single second of the day. Factory farming, zoos, the fashion industry, restaurants, other animal attractions, and many other industries all contribute to animal cruelty.

I encourage you to ask yourselves: Do we not, as compassionate beings, have a duty to protect other species?

Stop worrying about the fact that you worry!

Everyone will be able to relate this. We all worry about things, it’s perfectly natural but do we worry too much? Our minds are constantly busy with thoughts and worries and the only way to really stop worrying and thinking so much is to learn how to silence your mind:

Take a few moments to try this simple experiment:

Close your eyes for a minute or so and just listen to whatever sounds are going on around you. Be “a rock with ears,” hearing sounds the way a video camera would, without any preference for one sound over another or story about what the sounds mean or where they come from.

If you become aware of any internal chatter, just do your best to refocus on the sounds outside your head instead…

How was that? Does the world seem a bit different than it did a few moments ago? Do you feel more peaceful or relaxed?

One of the things that most people are striving for in one way or another is a quiet mind. Books, audios, and courses abound promising to teach techniques for achieving inner peace, reduced stress, less worry, and peace of mind. Yet, curiously, many of these programs seem to add to the number of shoulds, ought tos, musts, and have tos that fill our already-noisy brains.

The distinction I have found most useful in relation to all of these ideas came from the theosopher Syd Banks, who pointed out that there is a profound difference between the act of “meditating” and the state of “meditation.”

Meditating is an activity that at its best guides people into a state of meditation — the inner stillness I am referring to as “a quiet mind.” However, if you’ve ever struggled to maintain a meditation practice (or as I’ve done, made yourself laugh at the irony of getting mad at the people who are “disturbing your meditation”), you probably know that it’s all too easy to get caught up in the activity at the cost of the state.

My favorite illustration of this distinction came from a friend who was speaking at a major corporation about research that showed most people experienced their greatest moments of quiet insight in the shower. After the talk, which was extremely well-received, one of the heads of the company came up to them and asked: “How long should I get my people to shower each day?”

Chances are that some of the most profound experiences of stillness, inner quiet, and peace of mind you have experienced in your life occurred far away from the meditation pillow. Walking in nature, sipping a cappuccino, looking out over the ocean, and communing with a cat have all been known to induce a quiet mind, yet the simple secret behind all these activities is this:

The nature of your mind is quiet; the nature of your being is well.

So the fastest way to a quiet mind is not a particular practice, whether spiritual or secular; it is simply to realize the nature of mind itself.

Of course, if your mind is spinning away at a million miles an hour right now, trying to sort out the world, your life, and everyone in it, that’s probably not so much a comforting insight as an annoying one.

“Oh, I see, all I have to do is realize the nature of mind? Why didn’t anyone just say so? I could’ve saved myself years of practice, not to mention thousands of dollars on books, medication, and courses…”

But stick with me a few moments longer. If the nature of your mind is quiet, then there’s nothing you need to do in order to “quiet” it. Just let it be, and it will return to quiet all by itself. That’s different from trying to “stop thinking” or even “watching your thoughts.” It’s simply allowing enough space in your life (and in your head) for the “thought dust” to settle, and then resting in the peace that naturally arises into that space.

Can meditation, exercise, walks in nature, long showers, and communing with cats help? Sometimes. But if you notice that you’re spending more time trying to do self-care than time feeling cared for in yourself, why not just take a few moments out right now to enjoy the experience of being alive?

Worst case, you’ll feel a little bit better and enjoy yourself a little bit more; best case, you’ll drop straight into the natural quiet of your mind and drink deeply from the well of your being.

With all my love,

Michael

Cosmic Marriage: Your True Partner Has Already Been Decided

0
0

One of the grandest questions of the universe: do we have a selected soul mate from birth? People have wondered this for thousands of years, according to cosmic marriage, the answer is yes.

The universe, or the cosmos, has already preselected your soul mate. While this may seem a bit far-fetched, the universe has a grand plan for us – including the people in our lifetime. This is why it is so urgent to go with your gut feeling. Whether you understand it or not, that gut feeling has the potential to lead to your soulmate.

While the universe has your pre-selected soulmate, people often ignore the gut feeling or settle down for some other kind of personal issues. This causes them to never fulfill the ‘prophecy of love’ set forth by the cosmos. Cosmic marriage is guaranteed to not only succeed over time but blossom into a beautiful, loving, empathic companionship. However, the opposite is also the same. If two people are together – and the universe did not intend for this eternally – and they get married, their marriage is destined to fail. Rather harsh, however, it’s just the way the universe works.

You’re probably wondering why the universe would ever bring that dreadful ex into your life in general, and you’re not wrong for wondering. Gosh, do we all have some really bad exes. However, your relationship with your past partners never exactly blossomed – better put, crash and burned – you still learned excellent lessons from that relationship. You additionally gained a sense of independence after the breakup; you know it’s true.

Marriage with a true heart connection is becoming more and more a rarity in the modern day. Love is not all the dilly-dally the movies make it out to be. Love is painful, knowledgeable, hurtful, anxiety-inducing, exciting, compelling, and life-changing alone! If you don’t have that gut feeling about your partner it is okay! You should never feel guilty for the way the universe designed you to be. There is that perfect someone out there, do not ever give up home!

5 Ways Childhood Emotional Trauma Impacts Us as Adults

0
0

Sixty-eight percent of children and adolescents experienced at least one traumatic event by the age of 16 according to a study completed in North Carolina. Whether these individuals witnessed something traumatic or were victims to an event first hand, these events have the ability to shape and change your future as an adult.

Examples of potentially traumatic events include, but are not limited to, experiencing an earthquake or hurricane, an industrial accident, a vehicular accident, incidents of physical or sexual assault or various forms of childhood abuse. These events can change the way in which those impacted view the world around them, and how they function well into their adult years.

Here are 5 different ways in which these events can impact adult survivors:

They often deal with conflict in a passive-aggressive way.

When a child grows up in a home in which anger is expressed in a negative way, such as resulting in violence within the home, they learn that anger is an emotion that they ‘shouldn’t’ express. In their efforts to suppress this emotion it often surfaces in passive-aggressive reactions to the events that occur in their life.

Source: pecaphoto77/Shutterstock

They develop an unhealthy relationship with their own emotions.

While most healthy children grow up learning how to feel and express the emotions that they feel, children with unhealthy home lives often learn to suppress all emotion. Expressing upset, sadness, displeasure or anger can often set off their parents, teaching them that they should avoid these feelings at all costs.

They create a new, false self.

Children crave affection and acceptance from the adults that are in their lives. If they feel as though they are not receiving this, they may try to change who they are to become the individual that they feel they need to be to be worthy of this affection. This creates a form of ‘self’ that isn’t true to their character and can be carried well into their adult lives.

They become passive in an attempt to keep those around them happy.

Children who grow up in a situation in which they felt abandoned or neglected they may have learned to go out of their way to keep others happy. One of the sacrifices that come with this way of thinking is that they will often give in to whatever others desire, pushing their own needs and desires aside.

They subscribe to victim thinking.

Self-talk is incredibly powerful and can impact us in every aspect of our lives. Individuals who have been victimized as children often view themselves as having no control over their lives. If they haven’t dealt with this trauma as they grow up this way of thinking can carry well into their adult lives.

People With Creative Personalities Really Do See The World Differently

ALEXA ERICKSON

Artists, musicians, fashion designers, photographers, novelists … there are so many different types of “creatives” out there. The arts elicit such admiration around the world from the general public for the ability to create something so brilliant, yet so intrinsic. As outsiders, people often seem baffled. How did they do that? I can’t do that.

But that is exactly what creativity is: seeing the possibilities, and turning them into art. While some see something and ask how it came to be, creatives spend their time seeing what could be.

Psychologists have long been trying to measure creativity, often doing so by using divergent thinking tasks, in which you must create as many uses as possible for mundane objects.

It is those who can see numerous and diverse objects that are considered more creative than those who can only see a few common things.

For instance, I remember taking a creativity test in elementary school. One question showed an image of a girl too short to reach the shade on a door window to pull it down. The question asked me to draw as many solutions as possible for the little girl to reach the shade. Students drew rockets on the bottom of the girl’s feet, springs, and so on. Others simply drew a chair.

According to science, among the five major personality traits we behold, there is one that drives our creativity. This is called openness to experience, or openness. Openness is believed to be the best predictor of performance on divergent thinking tasks. It also predicts real-world creative achievements, and engagement in everyday creative pursuits.

While some people are fine assuming a chair is just a chair, or a rocket can only be used for space, others have an innate curiosity that drives them to examine things from all angles, resulting in higher openness.

Regarding research on the matter, Luke Smillie, Senior Lecturer in Personality Psychology, University of Melbourne and Anna Antinori, PhD candidate, University of Melbourne, conducted a study published in the Journal of Research in Personality that found open people, along with bringing a different perspective to things, also genuinely see things differently than the average individual.

Of their study, the team said:

We wanted to test whether openness is linked to a phenomenon in visual perception called binocular rivalry. This occurs when two different images are presented to each eye simultaneously, such as a red patch to the right eye and a green patch to the left eye.

For the observer, the images seem to flip intermittently from one to the other. At one moment only the green patch is perceived, and at the next moment only the red patch – each stimulus appearing to rival the other.

Participants in binocular rivalry studies sometimes see a fused of scrambled combination of both images, like the middle one above, which, according to this study’s authors, can be seen as sort of a creative solution to the problem.

Across three experiments, we found that open people saw the fused or scrambled images for longer periods than the average person. Furthermore, they reported seeing this for even longer when experiencing a positive mood state similar to those that are known to boost creativity.

Our findings suggest that the creative tendencies of open people extend all the way down to basic visual perception. Open people may have fundamentally different visual experiences to the average person.

Perhaps it’s frustrating to think “creatives” see the world “better” than a “normal” person, but there’s also a downside. Some people with heightened openness have issues with mental illness, including proneness to hallucination.

But also, there’s no such thing as better. Every perspective is beautiful, no matter the amount of openness involved. Regardless, it is interesting to note that there is science behind why some people can create things that others simply cannot.

As an Empath, Do You Have Healthy Boundaries?

0
0

Defining where someone else begins and you end seems like an odd thing to do, but if you are an empath, separation of the “Self” from others, even with all the talk of accepting our connectedness as part of the One, is crucial. Here’s a little insight into why setting personal boundaries is so critical, and why empaths may have an especially difficult time doing it.

As an empath, even more so than in “regular” folks, taking on other people’s emotions can be exhausting. Just walking down a hallway of a well-populated building, you may take on anger, fear, jealousy, fear, and any number of emotions which stick to you like glue, and even feel like your own. You may absorb these emotional states subconsciously, but feel them viscerally.

In extreme cases, these absorbed emotions can make an empath physically sick. Oddly, an empath does this automatically. Others among us, learned to simply ignore their own needs as a coping method in families that demanded they be “grown-up” or responsible for themselves prematurely.

If you are care-taking for someone who is sick or addicted, or it is your job to be a compass for a big group of people as part of your career, you may feel even more emotionally depleted, even though deep down you want to care for others.

A lack of healthy boundaries can cause us to say yes to every “opportunity” which arises, whether it’s social, personal, or business-related, and then either exhaust ourselves by trying to do too much while carrying a great amount of resentment, or simply “check out” and leave everyone hanging after we’ve over-committed.

Empaths are Connectors and Conduits

As an empath, you are a conduit and a connector. Much of this happens below your conscious awareness, but many empaths or sensitives are acutely aware that they feel others feelings as if they were theirs. This differs from sympathy where we may be familiar with what someone may be going through.

As an empath, we are wired to experience grief, pain, joy, hurt, and love at the extreme ends of the spectrum. It is more than an intellectual experience of another’s feelings, thoughts or attitudes. It is not simply a vicarious experience of these things. The empath experiences another’s pain, literally as their own.

This “skill,” though some may not yet see it as a strength, and rather a weakness, is what allows us to have an impeccable ability to transcend the “other” syndrome which plagues the modern world. We are the opposite of the psychotic or psychopath, who feels nothing, and has no capacity for empathy, and therefore can inflict devastating pain – as he feels no sense of moral grief, or personal responsibility.

A psychotic is detached from reality, and an empath experiences it in high-definition. In the same way that a psychotic is more likely to be a danger to society, due to their inability to relate to others’ feelings, an empath is in danger of losing themselves because they relate so completely.

Because empaths experience emotions so powerfully, they are more likely to have little tolerance for greed, usury, negativity, meanness, and other shadow qualities of the human psyche. They are simply more sensitive to them, and so, boundary making becomes an act of life-saving. If they don’t establish clear boundaries, then then lose themselves, quite literally, in another’s emotional battles and wars.

Five Ways to Tell If You Have Healthy Boundaries in Place

For everyone, including empaths, we can usually tell if we lack healthy boundaries, a signifier of healthy self-esteem, by our actions:

  • Do people expect you to drop everything you are doing at a moment’s notice to give them your full attention?
  • Do you answer your phone or email no matter what is going on in your life?
  • Do you receive praise and acceptance for the things you do for others, or are they largely ignored, perhaps even ridiculed?
  • How do you usually feel after spending time with friends and family in your life? Are you passionate and empowered, or do you feel emotionally drained?
  • Do you always say yes, even when you aren’t sure you want to do something?

Empowerment Through Boundary Making

The first thing you can do to start setting healthy boundaries is listen to your inner yes and no. If you aren’t sure if something is a “yes,” or “no” because you have become clouded by ignoring your own desires, and are constantly absorbing other people’s emotional baggage, take some time to be alone and ask yourself, “is this my stuff?” Am I doing what I want to be doing, or am I doing someone’s heavy lifting, feeling their emotions for them, instead of allowing them to sift through them, and learn from the lessons those emotions bring?

If you’re inner compass isn’t sure if you should spend time with someone or create a little space, make sure you don’t decide what to do when you are stressed, but notice over time how they make you feel. This is an indicator if you are absorbing their emotions, and that you may need to create a buffer zone between yourself and the other person. If you are feeling exhausted, depressed, or chaotic consistently around another person, this is a big alarm going off that they may not need to be in your life.

Cut Energetic Cords Without Cutting Out the Relationship

You can also cut energetic chords with someone without cutting them out of your life.  There are good attachments and attachments which don’t serve your continued growth. If you aren’t sure whether there is an energetic chord between you and someone else, sit and experience your emotions regarding them when they are not present. This will tell you what you need to know. Caroline Myss talks about how to cut chords extensively in her work.

Increase Your Self Care

Self-care is bigger than taking care of what you eat and how often you get to the gym. Self-care honors you just as much as others. You give your own well-being just as much importance as your care-taking of others. Self-care can include giving yourself the space and time to decide if something is right for you, and giving yourself permission to do what you want to do even if it upsets others – like not attending a party, or refusing to be the executor of someone’s will.

Tell Your Workaholic to Chill Out

As empaths, your work is never done. This also makes boundary setting absolutely vital to your own physical, energetic, emotional, and spiritual health. If you are constantly fixing other’s problems, or even your own due to neglect of boundaries, it’s time to teach yourself to slow down. Work less. Play more. On purpose.

Don’t Numb Out

An empath can’t really numb out, but they can temporarily check out, only to feel all the emotions they’ve absorbed from others come back in a tumultuous tidal wave later on. When you are feeling overwhelmed, it may mean that you need to temporarily reset your boundaries with someone, allowing them to get closer to you at a later date.

Stay Grounded

Literally. Walk on the earth. Let it absorb some of those heavier emotions you’ve sucked up like a Hoover vacuum. Grounding can help to reset the energy system and realign the chakras so that you can face another day of energetic super-sensitivity all over again.

Just Let Go

Let this mantra become your best-friend, “I choose to let go of what isn’t mine.” If you have been in the habit of taking everything on, letting go can feel scary or even unnatural. Once you’ve discovered you’ve been picking up other people’s emotions and have lacked healthy boundaries, forgive yourself, and them, and let it go. Focus on your own breath and your own body and start anew. You are a processor and amplifier of energy, but you need to consistently clear out and give up all the energy you’ve absorbed. Boundaries will help you when you need “me-time” to off-load.

How do you envision mental illness? If it’s anything like the following architecture images, then you may be on the right path, because these are eerily accurate.

In a series of architecture pictures, artist Federico Babina depicted 16 mental illnesses in his project deemed Archiatric. The various images depict houses that are being renovated, however, in each one, a different illness is also depicted. I have never seen a more acurate depiction of mental illness in my life! What about you?  This is just out of this world!

The Forgotten Story Of The Radium Girls, Whose Deaths Saved Thousands Of Workers’ Lives

0
0

Back in the early 20th Century, women working at the United States Radium Corporation would come into contact with radium-based paint on a daily basis while painting clocks. Unfortunately, as the world later found out, the radium in the paint proved to be deadly.

Strangely enough, due to their contact with the radioactive chemical, the girls were dubbed ‘the shining girls’ because they actually did glow in the dark. Sadly, they were all dying; Amelia ‘Mollie’ Maggia died first. It was during 1917, and the 19-year-old woman began working at the Radium Luminous Materials Corp. Mollie loved her job because she felt that by painting glow in the dark paint over the watches of soldiers overseas, that she might be helping the war effort.

She also enjoyed the popularity amongst the city, due to people calling her and the other girls from the factory the ghost girls because they were constantly glowing. However, any joy she had once had slowly dissipated, her hair and teeth began falling out. Shortly after she began to experience intense aches and pains; within 2 years she died.

Other girls, like Mollie, visited the dentist to have their rotted teeth pulled from their mouths. Dentists reported that most of them would come in with their teeth practically falling out, and he would finish the removal. However, none of the women’s mouths healed afterward. On the contrary, painful ulcers arose in their place. Some women even had their jaws crumbling at the slightest touch. They all had terrible breath and their skin even seemed to be falling apart. Unfortunately, all of the women died due to violent hemorrhaging.

The strangest part is that the girls continue to glow in their graves today, over 100 years later.

Marie Curie, the scientist that discovered radium referred to it lovingly by saying, “My beautiful radium.” She had accidentally stumbled upon the discovery in 1898, while she worked in a wooden shed that worked as a person laboratory. And she wasn’t the only one in love. The entire industrial world became infatuated, but at the time, they knew little about it.

“It causes horrible sores, which are difficult to heal, while it will heal some of the most malignant,’’ the San Bernardino County (Calif.) Sun noted in 1909.

Marie Curie was badly burned while using the substance, and due to prolonged exposure to the toxin, she also died in 1934.

However, even the small bits of information they knew about radium indicated that the chemical could be dangerous. Yet, despite the havoc it could reap, the industrial world pushed forward with its use, and because of that countless lives were lost. Thankfully, the cases began filing into the courtroom until a layer named Leonard Grossman took them to victory after eight appeals. Ultimately, they ended up changing the way workers right’s were looked at forever, and in turn, saved thousands of lives.

This Is What Each Emotion Is DESPERATELY Trying To Tell You…

Your Spirit and Body communicate with you in various ways. One of them is the language of emotions.

If you learn how to communicate with yourself you will discover that every emotion, “good” or “bad” exists to help you. They are like a guide map showing you what is out of alignment and where you need to invest more attention to.

There are no negative or positive emotions. There are emotions that demand of you to take a step back and listen, and there are motions that push you forward filled with energy. But all emotions are there to help us live the best life we can.

We tend to avoid “negative” emotions. We run away or distract ourselves from them. That’s when they become negative. All you have to do is embrace them and listen to what they have to say. They are something the deeper layers of yourself are trying to tell you.

THIS IS WHAT EACH EMOTION IS TRYING TO TELL YOU:

Bitterness shows you where you need to heal, where you are still holding judgements on others and yourself.

Resentment shows you where you are living in the past and not allowing the present to be as it is.

Discomfort shows you that you need to pay attention right now to what is happening. You feel this because you’re being given the opportunity to change, to do something different than you typically do it.

Anger shows you what you’re passionate about, where your boundaries are, and what you believe needs to change about the world.

Disappointment shows you that you tried something, that you did not give in to apathy, that you still care.

Guilt shows you that you’re still living life in other people’s expectations of what you should do.

Shame shows you that you are internalizing other people’s beliefs about who you should be (who you are) and that you need to reconnect with yourself.

Anxiety shows you that you need to wake up, right now, and that you need to be present. It shows you that you are stuck in the past and living in fear of the future.

Sadness shows you the depth of your heart, the depth of your care for others and this world, the depth of your feeling.

Six Examples of the Mandela Effect That’ll Make You Believe You’re In A Parallel Universe

If you asked someone to quote any line from the Star Wars series, what do you think you would get? More than likely the response would be, “LUKE, I am your father.” It is one of the most iconic movie lines in history.

But here is an earth-shattering fact; that line was never uttered in any of the movies. The quote is actually, “No, I am your father.” Millions of people believe that the line begins with Luke. How can millions of people remember something one way, and it actually be another… the Mandala Effect.

There is a whole bunch of quotes, symbols, titles and historical events like these which have prompted the same bizarre response.

In 2010, a woman named Fiona Broome claimed she remembered the news coverage of Nelson Mandela’s death in a South African prison during the 1980’s. When she shared this thought with a group of people, many of them said they remembered this even taking place, or remembered learning about it in school.

Only that supposedly never happened, Mandala was alive at the time and he died in 2013.

According to the theory, such memories are accounted for by something such as time travel (or, to blame scientists, a quantum ripple created by CERN’s Large Hedron Collider) changing history and creating sci-fi-style alternative realities. Moreover, that some of us have moved between those realities, hence remembering things that have been written out of our current timeline.

Here are a few of the most recognizable examples of the Mandela Effect, and let me be the first to warn you, your mind will be blown!

The Berenstein Bears

As a child I always loved the Berenstein Bears, I read all the books and watched all the movies and television shows. I mean everyone loved the Berenstein Bears as a kid, right?

However, apparently, the beloved book and tv series have always been spelled as B-e-r-e-n-s-t-a-i-n. Do you remember it being spelled that way?

Sex In The City

Being a female, I do often indulge in sexy or romantic television shows or movies. Sex In The City was one of my favorites, and every single time I have ever referred to this show I have always said: “Sex in the City.” Apparently, the title of the show is “Sex and the City.”

Mirror, Mirror on the wall

Go ahead ask someone to repeat this famous quote, and they will most likely begin by saying “Mirror, Mirror…” However, the Evil Queen actually says “Magic Mirror on the wall…”

Mama always said, ‘Life is like a box of chocolates’

Many people often remember this to be the famous Forrest Gump quote. However, Forrest actually says “Mamma always said, ‘Life was like a box of chocolates.” It is a very subtle difference, but it kind of makes you think back to the movie and if you really did hear it that way. When I discovered this one I was watching a YouTube video in which Tom Hanks was acting out all of his movies in under 6 minutes. In the video, he says very clearly “life is like a box of chocolates.”

I remember it being said that way when I was a child watching the movie, but if you look it up it is was. How do you remember it?

The Gremlins

I am a big 80’s movie person, and I have watched Gremlins quite a few times. In the movie there is a Gremlin that has a mow-hawk, what do you remember to be his name? I remember it as Spike, but if you look it up you will find that his name is actually Stripe.

The Monopoly Man

IMG_2017-01-07-064826

The Monopoly board game created by Hasbro enjoyed enormous fame all over the globe. One of its iconic symbols is the mustached “Monopoly Man” in a nice black and white ensemble and top hat. Many people remember the “Monopoly Man” as wearing a monocle, however, Rich Uncle Pennybags does not wear a monocle. What do you remember?

For a more in-depth view I highly suggest you read the article here, the article also goes into the repercussions, and things like the “Time speeding up” phenomenon, which I think we can all resonate with.

How do you remember the above?

While there are many people who believe that the Mandala Effect is the definite cause for these misremembrances, many people believe there is a logical explanation for this.

In 1978, a famous psychologist named Elizabeth Loftus conducted “The Misinformation Effect”, a study which found one’s recollection of memories can be distorted by subsequent information.

Loftus said: “The misinformation effect refers to the impairment in memory for the past that arises after exposure to misleading information.”

In other words, if someone says or implies that something looks a certain way, there’s a natural tendency to believe them if you’ve never paid close attention to it.

In some cases, the misleading information can actually overwrite one’s original memory, if it’s presented in a way that makes it seem more plausible.

Well, that or Broome is correct, and we’re all part of a complex colliding time travel loop. To be honest, you never can tell…

This Quantum Theory Predicts that the Future Might Be Influencing the Past

While no one is in disagreement about the fact that our present decisions affect the future, not everyone is convinced of it vice versa. However, there are a group of physicists that beg to differ, and what they are proposing could change everything.

According to a study published in Nature Physics, time may, in fact, move backward, things may exist in multiple states, and whether a tree falls in the woods not only may depend on whether anyone ultimately saw it, but also on whether something somehow knew it would be seen.

“It proves that measurement is everything. At the quantum level, reality does not exist if you are not looking at it,” said Associate Professor Andrew Truscott from the ANU Research School of Physics and Engineering.

Basically, just as in Alice in Wonderland, time can move forwards and time can move backward. Pretty trippy, huh? And these physicists aren’t the only ones in agreement.

“The laws governing clockwork going in reverse are the same as those of clockwork going the usual way—the variable merely becomes -t,” writes physiologist and biophysicist Werner R. Loewenstein in Physics in Mind.

Now to push things even further, in another study, it was suggested that ordinary people can be changed by events that have not happened yet. The study was conducted by Daryl Bem and was published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

This study was composed of nine different experiments. In one of those, 100 students were asked to guess which curtain on a computer screen hid a picture, some of which were erotic. After 100 trials, students that were shown the erotic images guessed better 53% of the time, which was better than just guessing at random.

“The remarkable finding [we made] is that their physiological responses are observed to occur about two to three seconds prior to the appearance of the picture, even before the computer has decided whether to present a non-arousing or an arousing picture,” Bem told the Cornell Daily Sun.

As it stands, we can’t go backward in time. Or technically forwards, unless you are a scientist, but that is a whole other quantum topic. In any case, the evidence proposed in the above studies is quite fascinating and could prove to provide much knowledge for the world of physics.
